When a senior executive at one of the world’s largest tech companies tells me what they want, I listen. In this case, during our very first customer meeting after signing up, he told me that he wants a “purple squirrel”. 🐿
The term “purple squirrel” was coined to describe the “perfect candidate” for a job. And conventional wisdom says that it’s a bad idea to search for such a candidate, because it is unattainable.
But we like to ignore “conventional” wisdom. 😃
There is no such thing as perfect, but there is such as thing as finding a candidate who is the “perfect fit”. The key is to be able to trust that they will be able to perform at a high level in the actual work environment. And that can only be done through “simulation”.
